Lydia Bryngelsson is a German-American freelance opera singer based in Oslo, Norway. She was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA. Her family moved to Germany when she was six years old. As a child, she obtained her first stage experience in operas at Theater Trier, including the role of Bilke in Fiddler on the Roof, and supernumerary roles in operas such as Eugene Onegin and Ernani, where she appeared alongside her father, bass James Moellenhoff. She received her first voice lessons from her mother, and in 2001, was awarded a first place in the competition Jugend musiziert.
Among recent engagements: performance in the role of Funiculà in Opera on the timetable in Oslo, in an opera gala at the concert hall in Stavanger together with Opera Rogaland, as alto soloist in Handel’s Dixit Dominus in Oslo Cathedral and as Second Lady in Trollflöjten at Oslo Opera.

Among roles during earlier seasons can be mentioned: Second Lady in The Magic Flute, Fortuna and Minerva in Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria and Prinz Orlovsky in Die Fledermaus, all at Den Norske Opera. Ms Bryngelsson has also sung Third Lady in The Magic Flute and Cenerentola by Rossini, both at Opera Østfold and Virginia Woolf in a world premiere of the opera Orlando by Peter Aderhold at Staatstheater Braunschweig. She has been engaged at Deutsches Teater in Berlin singing in the production Schwäne des Kapitalismus, in a tour in Norway singing Miss Baggott in Benjamin Britten’s The Little Sweep, at Oslo Opera festival singing Maddalena in Verdi’s Rigoletto and Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel.
Ms Bryngelsson has been working with conductors such as Rudolf Piehlmayer, Alessandro de Marchi, Alexander Joel, Tobias Ringborg, Per Kristian Skalstad, Magnus Loddgard, Christopher Lichtenstein and Sigmund Thorp.
Lydia has sung as a soloist with several ensembles and conductors: including J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, St. Matthew’s Passion and St John’s Passion, The Messiah and Dixit Dominus by G.F.Handel, Mass in D by Antonin Dvorak, Petite Messe Solennelle by Gioacchino Rossini, Magnificat by Christoph Schönherr with such conductors as Tobias Ringborg, Prof Martin Krumbiegel, Terje Boye Hansen, Rune Bergmann and Mirga Grazinyte.
Ms Bryngelsson studied at Leipzig Conservatory Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy during 2004 and 2012, diploma in voice Professor Berthold Schmid, at the University in Stavanger, post-graduate diploma in voice, professor Elizabeth Norberg-Schulz.
