KJETIL STØA TENOR BIOGRAPHY
The Norwegian tenor Kjetil Støa is one of Scandinavia’s most interesting tenors. His repertoire consists of many iconic roles in the operatic history, such as Rodolfo in La Bohème, Calaf in Turandot, Radames in Aida and Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly.
The season 2021-22 was a busy season for Kjetil with four major debuts; the title role in Verdi’s Don Carlos at Folkoperan in Stockholm, the role of King Magnus in Norway’s first opera Fredkulla by Udbye (written in 1858) concertante with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra & Opera, Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca at Opera Festuka in Kristiansund and Radames in Verdi’s Aida at Opera Hedeland.
He also appeared in concert at Kirsten Flagstad Festival in Norway and in a Christmas Tour in Sweden.
Coming up the season 2022-23 is the debut as Pinkerton in Butterfly at Opera Trøndelag and the role Don José at Opera Rogaland in Norway.
Among recent engagements can be mentioned Macduff at the Opera in Kristiansund, Norway, the tenor part in the opera Borregaard at Sarpsborg Scene, Norway, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte at Opera på Skäret in Sweden, Calaf in Turandot at Folkoperan in Sweden, Rodolfo in La Bohème at the Opera in Kristiansund and in Vestfold,
Norway, Tormod Kolbrunarskald in the Norwegian production The Saint Olav Drama at the National Culture Center in Stiklestad, Norway and in Kiberg Odyssén with NordNorsk Opera and Symphony Orchestra.
Other roles and engagements: Zinovij Borisovich Izmailov in Lady Macbeth from Mtsensk, Monostatos in The Magic Flute, Messagero in Aida, Shepard in Oedipus Rex and 4th Jew in Salome, all at Den Norske Opera og Ballet in Norway, Wagner in Mefistofele (Boito) at Trondheim Music Theatre, Rodolfo in La Bohème in a tour production with NorrlandsOperan and Riksteatern in Sweden, the Emperor in Turandot with Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Norway in a staged production and Edwin in Die Csárdásfürstin at Oslo Operafestival. Kjetil Støa also participated in the world premiere of the opera I Cancelliradens Dage (Ragnar Söderlind) at Ringsakeroperaen in Norway and in KibergOdyssen with the NordNorsk Opera and Symphony Orchestra.
Kjetil Støa holds a Master of Arts in Opera from The University College of Opera in Stockholm and a Master of Arts in music performance NTNU from the Department of music atTrondheim Conservatory of Music. He has been awarded several prizes and scholarships such as Nord-Trøndelags Fylkes kulturstipend and a scholarship from Royal Academy of Music in Sweden.
